In short: TurtlePic lets you create an engagement invitation online for free. Pick one of 8 templates, tell us about the roka, ring ceremony or party, and share one link with both families. Replies land in one list, and after the event guests find their own photos with a selfie.

Roka, ring ceremony or engagement party?

Families use these words differently, and many combine them or skip one. As a general guide:

RokaRing ceremony (sagai or mangni)Engagement party
What it marksThe two families accepting the matchThe couple exchanging ringsCelebrating with everyone
Usual sizeClose familyExtended family and family friendsFamily and the couple’s friends
Usual toneSimple, often at homeFormalRelaxed, with music and dinner

Name your own function on the invite, in the words your family uses. TurtlePic has both roka and engagement as event types.

Who should the invitation come from?

From the families. This is the usual choice for a roka or ring ceremony, and it suits elders on both sides. Name both sets of parents, or say “the [Surname] and [Surname] families” so nobody is left out.

From the couple. This works well when the two of you are hosting, or for a party with mostly friends. It sounds more like you, and less like a card.

From both. “Together with our families” is the simple way to keep everyone happy.

What to put on your engagement invitation

  • The couple’s names, in the order your families prefer
  • The names of parents or both families, if they are hosting
  • The name of the function, such as roka, sagai or ring ceremony
  • Date, time, and whether the time is for the ceremony or the dinner

  • Venue, and parking or a pick-up point if guests are travelling
  • Dress code, if you are colour-matching family outfits
  • A contact person from each side
  • A reply-by date

Who to invite, and how to split the list

Agree on the numbers before anything goes out. These are the talks that cause trouble later.

  • Settle each family’s share first. A rough split saves awkward calls.
  • Think ahead to the wedding. People you invite now will usually expect a wedding invite too.
  • Set a limit per reply. You can cap how many people each guest can bring, so a family of two does not become six.
  • Keep two lists apart with two invites. If the roka is family only and the party is for friends, make a separate invite for each. Each event gets its own link, so the family link stays with family.

Small touches guests notice

  • Our story: add how you met, in a few lines. Relatives who only know one of you will read it.
  • Livestream link: for grandparents or cousins who cannot travel.
  • Transport & shuttle: handy if one family is coming from another city.
  • Meal preference: veg, non-veg or Jain, in the RSVP form, so the caterer has a real count.

You choose whether your invite shows on Google. Keep “Show in search and AI tools” off in Share settings if your family’s details should stay with the people you send them to.

Engagement invitation FAQ

What is the difference between a roka and an engagement?

A roka is usually a small family gathering where the two families accept the match, often without rings. An engagement or sagai is usually bigger and includes the ring exchange. Traditions vary by family and region, and TurtlePic lets you name your function in your own words.

Who sends the engagement invitation, the family or the couple?

Either is fine. Parents or both families usually send it for a traditional ring ceremony, while the couple often sends it for a party with friends. TurtlePic lets you add family lines or leave them out.

Who should be invited to a roka?

A roka is usually kept to close family from both sides, though every family decides this for itself. If your roka list is different from your party list, make two separate TurtlePic invites, so each group gets its own link.

Do engagement guests have to be invited to the wedding?

Most people invited to an engagement will expect to be invited to the wedding, so a smaller engagement is the safer choice if your wedding list is not final. Your TurtlePic reply list shows you who has said yes so far.

How soon should an engagement invitation go out?

Three to four weeks works for most engagements, and more if relatives need to book travel. A roka is often arranged quickly, so a few days can be enough. Since a TurtlePic invite is a link, even a last-minute roka can reach everyone the same day.

Can I get an engagement invitation card from TurtlePic?

Think of TurtlePic as the online side of your invite, not a print shop. If your elders want something on paper, have a card printed locally and add your invite’s QR code, so anyone can scan it and reply.

Can I change the details after sharing?

Yes. You can edit your TurtlePic invite after it is live and the link stays the same, so a new time or venue reaches guests without sending a fresh link.
