How banquet halls in Delhi work

A banquet hall is an indoor, air-conditioned space that comes with food. That's the deal in most of Delhi NCR: you book a date and a slot, choose a menu, and pay per plate for an agreed minimum number of guests. The hall supplies the room, the kitchen, the serving staff, basic lighting and usually a stage. Decor, DJ and extras are offered as add-ons or packages.

Because the hall runs the kitchen, the menu is one of the biggest choices you'll make. Ask for a tasting before you sign, and compare menus line by line, not just the per-plate rate.

Slots, minimums and the fine print

Most busy halls sell two slots a day: lunch and dinner. On peak dates, another family's function may end an hour before yours starts. Ask when your decorator can get in, and when you must be out.

The minimum guarantee is the number of plates you pay for even if fewer guests come. Set it close to your real count, not your hopes. If more people turn up, ask how the extra plates are charged.

Read the contract for what's not included: taxes, service charges, generator use, decor beyond the basic package, and fees for bringing your own decorator, DJ or photographer.

Sizes: from roka to reception

Banquet halls come in every size. Some buildings have one huge hall for big weddings and several smaller rooms for a roka, a mehndi or a cocktail evening. If you need more than one function, ask whether the same building can host them all; it saves the family a lot of running around.

Use the Capacity filter to narrow the list, and remember that a hall's number may mean standing, not seated.

Banquet halls by area

  • West Delhi (Peeragarhi, Mayapuri and nearby): long rows of halls on the main roads, easy to see several in one visit.
  • South-west Delhi (Dwarka, Kapashera): halls near the airport, useful for guests flying in.
  • South-east Delhi (Okhla): halls close to South Delhi and the road to Noida.
  • Gurgaon (Sohna Road, Basai Road and around): newer halls on the city's growing edges.
  • Noida and Greater Noida (Sectors 22, 52, 63, 74 and Greater Noida West): a wide spread of halls for families in the east.
  • Faridabad and Ghaziabad: halls for families in the southern and eastern parts of NCR.

Music, timings and neighbours

Under India's noise rules, loudspeakers can't be used outdoors between 10 p.m. and 6 a.m., but closed premises such as banquet halls are an exception for sound used inside. That's one reason so many late functions move indoors. Halls still set their own cut-off times, and the baraat outside on the road is a different matter. Ask the hall for its music cut-off, and whether the baraat can play near the entrance.

Questions to ask the banquet hall

  • What's the per-plate rate, and what's the minimum guarantee?
  • Is there another function before or after ours on the same day?
  • Can we bring our own decorator, DJ or caterer? Is there a fee?
  • What time must the music stop?
  • How many cars can park, and is there valet?
  • Is there a lift and a ramp for elderly guests?
  • Are taxes and service charges included?

What affects the cost

  • Per-plate rate: veg or non-veg, number of dishes, live counters.
  • Minimum guarantee: the plates you pay for regardless.
  • Date and slot: auspicious dates, winter weekends and dinner slots.
  • Hall size: bigger halls and private floors cost more.
  • Packages: decor, DJ and lighting bundles.
  • Location: central and prime areas usually cost more than outer ones.
