Banquet halls in Hyderabad: function halls and convention centres

Hyderabad weddings are often big, and the venues are built for it. Locally, many banquet halls are called function halls, and the largest call themselves convention centres. They can seat a full guest list for dinner, with a separate dining area so the hall doesn't need to be cleared between the ceremony and the meal. Most have in-house or tied-up catering, a large stage, parking and power backup.

Smaller banquet halls work well for engagements, haldi, mehendi and sangeet nights, or for a wedding with a short guest list.

Hotels, resorts and farm venues

Hotels in Banjara Hills, Begumpet, HITEC City and the Financial District offer ballrooms, lawns and rooms for out-of-town guests. They suit receptions and families who want polished service in one place.

Resorts and farm venues sit outside the city, mostly around Moinabad and Chilkur to the west, Shamshabad near the airport and Shamirpet to the north. They offer open lawns, room to spread out and space for guests to stay. The drive is the catch: plan transport for elderly relatives and late-night returns.

A few traditional kalyana mandapams also host Telugu weddings, especially in the eastern parts of the city.

Wedding venues in Hyderabad by area

General patterns only, so always check the venue itself.

  • Banjara Hills, Jubilee Hills and Begumpet: hotels and upscale halls in the city's older central areas.
  • HITEC City, Madhapur, Kondapur, Gachibowli and the Financial District: hotel ballrooms and newer halls in the IT corridor.
  • Secunderabad, Kompally and Alwal: halls and hotels for families in the north.
  • Uppal, Nagole and LB Nagar: function halls and mandapams in the east.
  • Moinabad, Chilkur, Shamshabad and Shamirpet: resorts and farm venues on the outskirts.

Matching the venue to your ceremony

Think about your rituals before you think about decor. A Telugu wedding with a late-night muhurtham needs a venue that's comfortable and well-run at 2 a.m., with food and rest rooms for the family. A nikah may need separate seating areas, a quiet space for the ceremony, and a dining set-up that can serve many guests at once. A walima or reception needs a stage for photos and a smooth flow from the entrance to the buffet.

Visit at the same time of day as your function, and count the seats yourself. Ask whether the hall's capacity number means seated dinner or a standing crowd.

Questions to ask the venue

  • Is the muhurtham date free, and is there an extra charge for late-night use?
  • Is catering in-house only, or can we bring our own cook or caterer?
  • Can the hall be divided, or is there a second hall for dining?
  • How many cars can park, and is there valet service?
  • Is there full power backup for lights and air conditioning?
  • Are rooms included for the bride, groom and families?
  • What's the advance, and what happens if the date moves?
  • Are taxes included in the quote?

When to book

The cooler months from about November to February are the most popular, and good halls on auspicious dates fill early. Summer days are very hot, so if you marry then, choose an air-conditioned hall or an evening slot. Fewer weddings happen in some months of the religious calendar, which can open up dates if your family is flexible.

What affects the cost

  • Type and size: convention centres and hotels usually cost more than smaller halls.
  • How it charges: per plate, a fixed hire, or a package.
  • Date and time: auspicious dates, weekends and long late-night bookings.
  • Guest count and menu: veg or non-veg, biryani counters, sweets and live stations.
  • Extras: decor, lighting, rooms, valet, and fees for outside vendors.
  • Location: central hotels and outskirts resorts price very differently.

Where a venue publishes a starting price, it shows on the card. Ask what it includes.
