Banquet halls and wedding venues in Pune include indoor halls, mangal karyalays and lawns in the city, plus hill resorts in Lonavala and Mulshi for a weekend wedding. Many Maharashtrian ceremonies happen in the day, so natural light, shade and an airy hall matter as much as the stage. The 42 venues below link to their own websites for photos, capacity and dates.

Banquet halls in Pune: what you'll find

Pune has a venue for almost every kind of wedding, and they fall into four groups.

Banquet halls are the most searched-for choice. They are indoors, usually air-conditioned, and most come with their own kitchen and catering team. They work well for receptions, engagements and evening functions, and they don't depend on the weather.

Lawns are open grounds, often with a hall or covered area on one side. They suit large daytime ceremonies and big dinners under the sky. You'll find them in Kothrud, Erandwane, Bavdhan, Hinjewadi and Dhanori, among other areas.

Hotels in the city offer ballrooms, lawns and rooms for out-of-town guests in one place, which helps when relatives fly or drive in.

Resorts sit mostly outside the city: in Lonavala and Khandala on the old Mumbai road, around Mulshi, and on the highways to Nagar, Solapur and Satara. They're popular for weekend weddings where guests stay over.

Mangal karyalays, lawns and the daytime wedding

Many Maharashtrian families still prefer a traditional wedding hall, the mangal karyalay, for the main ceremony. It's simple and practical: a stage for the rituals, a dining area for a sit-down lunch and rooms for the families to get ready. The ceremony often happens in the day, so natural light and a cool, airy hall matter more than fancy lighting. Some lawns and banquet halls now offer the same set-up, with a ritual stage in the morning and the space turned around for an evening reception.

If your family wants a daytime ceremony and an evening reception, ask whether one venue can host both, and how long it needs to change the decor in between.

Wedding venues in Pune by area

These are general patterns, so always check the venue itself.

  • Kothrud, Erandwane, Deccan and Shivajinagar: older central areas with halls and lawns close to many family homes.
  • Baner, Balewadi, Wakad, Hinjewadi and Ravet: newer halls and hotels on the west side, near the IT parks and the Mumbai highway.
  • Viman Nagar, Dhole Patil Road and Mundhwa: hotels and banquet halls in the east, handy for guests flying in.
  • Hadapsar and the Solapur and Saswad roads: larger venues with more room on the south-east side.
  • Pimpri-Chinchwad and Akurdi: halls for families in the industrial north-west.
  • Lonavala, Khandala and Mulshi: hill and lake resorts for weekend weddings.

City hall or hill resort?

A city venue keeps things simple. Elderly relatives can come for a few hours and go home, and your decorator, caterer and photographer don't need to travel.

A resort turns the wedding into a short trip. Guests stay together, functions can spread over two days, and the setting does a lot of the decorating for you. The trade-off is cost and planning: you pay for rooms, transport and often a minimum stay. In the monsoon, the ghat roads can be slow and wet, and open lawns need a covered backup. Ask the resort what happened at weddings it hosted on rainy dates.

Questions to ask the venue

  • Is the date free, and does the price change on muhurta dates and weekends?
  • Is there a morning slot and an evening slot? Can we book both?
  • Is catering in-house only? Can we bring a caterer who cooks traditional Maharashtrian food?
  • Are there rooms for the families to get ready, and are they included?
  • What time must music stop on the lawn, and indoors?
  • How much parking is there, and who manages it?
  • For resorts: is there a minimum number of rooms or nights?
  • How much is the advance, and what happens if we change the date?

When to book

The cool months from about November to February are the busiest in Pune, and the best halls on auspicious dates go early. If your date is fixed, book the venue first and build the rest around it. Monsoon dates can be easier to get, especially in the city, as long as you choose an indoor hall.

What affects the cost

  • Type of venue: halls and karyalays usually cost less than hotels and resorts.
  • How it charges: per plate, a fixed hire for the space, or a resort package with rooms.
  • Date and slot: auspicious dates, weekends and evening slots are in demand.
  • Guest count and menu: the number of plates, the dishes and live counters.
  • Extras: decor, sound, rooms, generator backup and fees for outside vendors.
  • Location: central areas and hill resorts in peak season tend to cost more.

Where a venue publishes a starting price, it shows on the card. Ask what that price includes.

Wedding venues in Pune: questions
