8 tips for a smooth wedding song list
Time every moment, give the DJ one list…
Time every moment. Walks, entries and dances rarely need a full song. Note where to cut in the plan.
Give the DJ one list. Copy the DJ list from "Plan the night" and send it a week before.
Name the version. Original, remix, acoustic or instrumental? Write it in the notes so the DJ plays the right one.
Start safe, end loud. Play songs that are safe with elders early, and save the louder ones for later.
Match the dancers. Give parents and non-dancers easy songs. Save showstoppers for the confident ones.
Mix the eras. A classic, a 2010s hit and something new keeps every age happy.
Plan the gaps. Leave a minute between sangeet acts for people to get on and off stage.
Pick a last song. Tell the DJ which song ends the night, so nothing plays after it.
Need someone to run the music? Some wedding planners in our directory also handle entertainment and DJs: Delhi NCR · Mumbai · Bangalore · Pune · Hyderabad · Jaipur · Chennai.
Wedding song questions
It depends on the moment. For the walk down the aisle or the bride entry, try A Thousand Years by Christina Perri or Din Shagna Da by Jasleen Royal. For the first dance, Perfect by Ed Sheeran or All of Me by John Legend. For the mehndi, Mehndi Laga Ke Rakhna, and for the sangeet and the dance floor, London Thumakda, Kala Chashma and Uptown Funk. See our top 10 above, or pick your moment and vibe in the tool for more.
Our top 10 are Din Shagna Da, A Thousand Years, Kudmayi, Perfect, All of Me, Tera Ban Jaunga, Mehndi Laga Ke Rakhna, London Thumakda, Kala Chashma and Uptown Funk. They cover the entry, the first dance and the dance floor, for Indian and Western weddings. It's our own pick from the library, not a play count.
Our Latest wedding songs list shows songs released in the last 12 months, newest first, and it changes every month. Recent picks include Tera Ho Jaun and Tu Hi Disda, both Hindi film songs from 2026, plus new Punjabi, Telugu, Bengali and English songs. In the tool, new songs carry a New badge, and "Newest first" sorts any list by release date.
Answer three quick questions: the moment, who's performing and the vibe. Songs show straight away and change as you tap. Save the ones you like, then plan the night in order.
No. Nothing plays on this page. Each song has buttons that open a search for it on YouTube or Spotify, in a new tab.
For the ceremony, you need three or four: the walk down the aisle, the signing or rituals, and the recessional. For the reception, plan about 15 to 20 songs an hour for dancing. For a sangeet, one song per act, usually two to four minutes each.
A soft song that builds works best, so the big moment lands as you reach the stage or mandap. Popular picks are Din Shagna Da, Kudmayi and Ranjha, or A Thousand Years if you'd like an English song. If you'd rather dance in than walk, pick a bride solo from the sangeet list. See more in Bride entry songs above.
Most bride entries take one to three minutes, so you rarely need the full song. Ask the DJ to start where the song builds and fade it out when you reach the stage. A varmala is shorter, often a minute or two, plus time for the fun when friends lift the bride or groom. Add the cut points as notes in "Plan the night".
Light, folky songs like Mehndi Laga Ke Rakhna and Laung Laachi for the mehndi, and fun, loud songs like Banno and Morni Banke for the haldi. Pick Mehndi or Haldi under Indian functions for more.
Pick a song whose best part comes early, because most Reels are short. Soft songs that build, like Kesariya or A Thousand Years, suit a couple film. Songs with a hook step, like Kala Chashma or Tauba Tauba, suit a sangeet or haldi Reel. When you post, add the song from Instagram's own music library.
Save your songs, open "Plan the night" and put them in order. Then tap Copy DJ list, send it on WhatsApp, or print it as a PDF.
It's our own check: no rude words, no strong innuendo and no songs about drinking. Turn on the "Safe with elders" filter to see only those songs. Always listen once yourself before the big day.
